From 21 April to 27 November 2022, the Wilmotte Foundation presents a vision of Venice by the Korean photographer Bae Bien U. For this special occasion, Bae Bien U, responding to Jean-Michel Wilmotte's invitation, presents a brand new series of photographs that renews our perception of Venice, through an exhibition entitled "Light of Grey" in the Wilmotte Foundation gallery.
For this commission, Bae has spent the last four seasons in Venice, questioning the origin of the city and its nature through his lifelong passion of “painting with light”, or photography. Bae Bien-U still uses an analogue camera to create his photographs and develops them using the traditional darkroom method, minimising the need for digital retouching. All of the works in this exhibition have been made by hand in the same way and in the same spirit, with the help of master technicians.
